Responding to the daunting challenge issued by the devoted fans of the Montreal Canadiens, the citizens of Pittsburgh and Penguins fans around the world are proving just how passionate they are about their heroes.

Pens forwards Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, the top two scorers in the NHL, have closed the gap considerably on the front-running Montreal threesome of Alexei Kovalev, Saku Koivu and Alex Tanguay in fan balloting to select the starting lineups for the 2009 NHL All-Star Game in Montreal January 25.

As of 7:00 am ET Tuesday, Crosby had received 320,373 votes in XM NHL® All-Star Fan Balloting presented by 2K Sports.  With polls still open for another month, that moved Crosby within 65,000 votes of claiming one of the three starting spots up front for the Eastern Conference.  Malkin, who led the NHL with 39 points through Monday's games, ranked fifth among Eastern Conference forwards with 264,914 votes.

Michael Phelps has won a pretty prestigious award...he has been named the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year for 2008.

Part of his award was to get wet in a tux and have his big S.I. cover so badly photoshopped it looks like a 12 year old that makes My Space glitter graphics did it!

The best S.I. Sportsman of the Year cover EVER was in 1991 when Michael Jordan one it. They made his damn face into a HOLOGRAM!

The FIRST of what should be a FEW different penalties in the Plaxico Burress gun case came down today from his team, the New York Giants.

The Giants have suspended Plax 4 games (rest of the regular season) for conduct detrimental to the team AND also placed him on the non-football injury list which mean he will NOT be back for the playoffs either. NICE MOVE GIANTS!

The NFL can still make a suspension in the case AND Plaxico still has the regular legal case against him for the gun charge. HAVE FUN PLAX - GUN PLAY IS BAD!

Hines Ward called us this morning...we asked him about Plaxico and he said if he felt he needed to take a gun to the club with him, he probably shouldn't have been in that club in the first place.
